FX Morning Update USD INR September 20, 2023
USDINR opened at 83.13 on Monday and the pair traded in the 83.09-83.26 range. Spot USDINR closed at 83.26, gain of 7 ps for USD as against prior close of 83.19. FX market was closed y’day.

Sep USD/INR closed at 83.36, gain of 18 ps for USD as compared to prior day’s close of 83.18. Sep Euro/INR closed at 88.98, GBP/INR at 103.35 and Yen/INR at 56.58. 1 year USDINR fwd premia was trading at around 1.75% p.a. FX reserves stood at USD 594 bn as on Sept 8 th.

In Sep, FPI’S have sold Rs 6715 Cr of Equities and bought Rs 1382 Cr of debt . In 2022-23 fiscal year, FII’S have net sold Rs 27593 Cr of Equities and have net bought Rs 838 Cr of debt.
Benchmark Nifty declined 59 points (0.29%) on Monday. US S&P declined 9 points (0.22%) . Nikkei declined 0.80% and Hang Seng climbed 0.27%.
Euro is now at 1.0685, Pound at 1.2392, Yen at 147.80.
Commodities: Gold is now at USD 1929 and WT1Crude at USD 90/Brent at USD 94.30.
Interest rates: USD 10 Yr yield is at 4.36% and 3 m libor closed at 5.65%. Indian 10 yr benchmark yield closed at 7.10%.
Economic news: US Fed meeting is the key event for the day.
OECD revised its 2023 Global growth rate to 3% and to 2.7% for 2024. OECD outlook points out considerable downside risks, emphasizing potential persistency in inflation accompanied by potential disruptions in the food and energy markets. Slowdown in China’s economy stands as a prominent concern, with ripple effects expected to diminish growth in global trading partners and possibly undercut business confidence universally.
Data highlights: – US building permits climbed to 1.54 mn, housing starts declined to 1.28 mn.
-EU CPI declined marginally to 5.2% y/y.
